When Dr Qardhawi Shed The Tears

7 02 2010

div>

Dr Qardhawi, is a scholar whom I respect so much. I may differ with him in certain matters, methodology of feqh and rulings but he is outstanding as a contemporary scholar whom emphasized on unity among Muslim and preserve of good adab whilst dealing with khilaf amongst us. Here, a heart-wrenching and eyeopening talk of him. Even when Dr Qardhawi himself shed his tears.

How about us who laugh more than we cried in front ALLAH? Who indulge in worldly affairs more than focusing our soul towards ALLAH? Who put our nafs and uncalled desire over ALLAH’s Will? How many times we did this & that and still so much into our own self? How many times did we sacrifices what truly uphold for us for something that not even exist in the first place? Who love and put this dunya in our heart!!! O pity our soul…..

If not with ALLAH mercy should we not, will not deserve to be here and have what we had. Only with HIS Will and Mercy we still walk, strive and breath in this world.

1) Do not immerse by people praises, but focus on your inner self and sins

Ibnu Athaillah As-Sakandari

Do not immerse in by what people praising you. Should you know what sins, and ghaflah that you be with more than others know about it. While people praising you, counts your own faults towards others. You know your heart on how it keep going to the wrong places. Even when it crying for help to be assist to what ALLAH want and ask from us we keep ignored it calls.

2) Shed your tears even if you have to pretend it

Shed your tears o myself and counts your own faults and sins. Do not ever put your back – again- before ALLAH. Observe your faults, admitted it, repent, seek only ALLAH. Whilst at the same time don’t ever give up for HIS Mercy. But do not hope with an empty hand. As Yahya ibn Ma’aadh said:-

“In my opinion, the worst kind of self-delusion is for someone to sin excessively and then to hope for forgiveness without feeling any remorse; or it is to expect to draw near to Allah, the Exalted, without obeying or worshipping Him; or it is to hope for the fruits of the Garden after having only planted the seeds for the Fire; or it is to seek the abode of the obedient through committing wrong actions; or it is to expect a reward after having done nothing worthwhile; or it is to place hope in Allah, Glorious and Mighty is He, after having exceeded all the limits”.

3) Cover your brother ‘aib

Cover your brothers ‘aib as Allah has covered our aib bisitrihil Jamil. We ourself, were amongs sinful servants of HIM who are lucky by ALLAH mercy our ‘aib and sins has been covered by ALLAH. Cover your brothers ‘aib as HE will covered our ‘aib in the Hereafter.

Even While During The Chores

Hakim al-Umma Shaykh Mawlana Shah Ashraf Ali Thanawi (Allah have mercy on him) used to repeatedly emphasize that one must complete his daily ma’muuat (wird) regularly.

In case of a genuine excuse this may be even without wudhu’ (ablution) or while doing the daily chores . This is because that being absent after fixing a ma’mool (wird) causes loss of barakah (Divinely blessings) excessively.

Feqhun Nisa: Permasalahan Haid

26 01 2010

Soalan:

Setelah mandi wajib kerna haid telah berhenti semasa subuh kerana bangun pagi tiada kesan darah, tiba -tiba semasa asar terdapat cebisan darah keluar ketika buang air kecil. Tetapi kesan darah takda. Mungkin cebisan2 darah haid yg tertinggal. Adakah perlu mandi semula?

BismillahiMashALLAH

Allahumma Solli ‘Ala Muhammad

Mereka bertanya kepadamu tentang haid.

Terdapat soalan dikalangan akhwat kita berkenaan masalah haid.

Hadis dari Saidatina Aisyah r.a. yang menceritakan; “Wanita-wanita sahabat menghantar kepadanya satu bekas kecil berisi kapas yang terdapat padanya kesan kuning dan keruh dari haid. (*Tujuan mereka ialah meminta penjelasan darinya apakah mereka telah suci dari haid atau belum apabila yang masih tinggal pada faraj mereka hanyalah kesan kuning dan keruh). Lalu ‘Aisyah menjawab;

“Janganlah kamu tergesa-gesa (mandi wajib) sehinggalah kamu melihat seperti kapur putih” (HR Imam al-Bukhari)

PERBINCANGAN RINGKAS HADIS:-

Menurut Ulama warna-warna darah haid terdiri seperti dibawah:-

1. Hitam
2. Merah
3. Asyqar (warna antara merah dan kuning)
4. Kuning
5. Keruh

Pertama:

Perhatikan waktu kebiasaan tempoh haid berakhir. Ini berdasarkan kiraan putaran kebiasaan setiap bulan. Menurut Mazhab Syafie’ 7-8 hari kebiasaanya. Seperti dimaklumi menerusi kalam Sayyiduna Ali r.a

“Janganlah kamu tergesa-gesa (mandi wajib) sehinggalah kamu melihat seperti kapur putih” (HR Imam al-Bukhari)

Keempat:

Kaifiyah Solat Gerhana

14 01 2010

Gerhana matahari datang lagi.

Warna Alam

Melihat alam mentafisr realiti
Menghujani ilham
Tafakkur merenung biru kapas awan
Basah jiwa dengan zikrullah
Merenung alam hijau
Tadabbur penuh zuhud
Alangkah indah ciptaan Allah
Merentas dada merah saganya matahari
Polos jiwa dengan tasbih
Melipat akli mulusnya titis hujan
Rencam jiwa dengan taubat
Mengintai anjung kerdipan mata warna-warni pelangi
Subhanallah indahnya
Sarat atma dengan cintaNya
Mengetuk kalbu mulusnya putih salji
Ibarat pola-pola kapas mendakap lantai bumi
Sebu hati dengan rinduNya
Mencumbu wanginya pepohon kayu hutan;pine
Allahukabar
Tunduk diri penuh taqwa
Mendengar merdunya hembusan bayu
MasyAllah
Akur hati sujud padaNya
Mencicipi halusnya deruan air sungai
Lailahaillah
Luluh rasa getar padaNya
Menadah haruman kelopak bunga
Tepu atma dengan syukur
Segalanya
Tiada bicara melainkan aku abidNya

Moga-moga dimudahkan menulis sesuatu yang bukan sekadar ‘for the sake of writing’.

Namun walau tubuh terpisah jauh namun Raihan mesti ingat janji kita ya." Aku mengerlingnya menanti balasannya.

Dia melihatku sambil mengerdipkan matanya yang indah jeli berwarna hazel.  Katanya. " Aisya, takkan Raihan lupa.

Cinta-حب tu "isim nakirah ".

Anak perempuan jesteru malunya tebal. Jika kanak-kanak lelaki menjadi satu kemestian bertanyakan soalan ” Pukul berapa sekarang” apabila melihat ‘Wafidin’ seperti kami.

Raihan menyambung perbualan kami.

Birai mataku kabur, sambil mengenggam erat tangannya, aku mengganguk. Selamat jalan teman.

Learning, growing, improving, loving and giving more each day. Entri asal saya tulis dua tahun lepas sempena kedatangan hijrah. Moga-moga. Amin.

Transcending Beyond The Rythms

Transcendent Of The Rhythms

Say, “Who prohibited the nice things God has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?” Say,”Such provisions are to be enjoyed in THIS life by those who BELIEVE. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of resurrection.” We thus explain the revelations for people who know.” 7:32

Those who close to ALLAH and preserve the remembrance of ALLAH’s Greatness through not only their music/song (naat, qasidah, -r&b, soulful, harmony genres of nasyeed-) but by their actions (qudwah) & works (da’wa) will always be my fav. There are always new nasyid artists and new released but not all can captured my heart. I’m looking for a sound that carry a message/essence which can transcend the soul and heart to Almighty ALLAH and HIS Greatness. Not to mention making our heart warm&fuzzy with the love to our Prophet. Promoting Islam will be a bonus tough.

Recently, producing a music that has the essence of spirituality has become a trend. I didn’t have anything to say about that but what I preferred is not a trend nor just simply making the music that speaks out loud about ALLAH but those who are singing it has to comes among who are right in their word, true with their action and obey ALLAH. Our submission to Almighty ALLAH can’t be done partially and based upon on our nafs, comfort and excuses.[1]

As Ismail Raji AlFaruqi (May ALLAH Bless his soul) stated below:-

According to the ethnomusicologist Al-Faruqi, religious opinion makes a hierarchy of music and singing in forbidden, unfavored, indifferent, recommended and commendable forms. The recitation of the Quran stands at the peak of the hierarchy, immediately followed by the call to prayer and religious chants. Also legitimate are various types of songs connected to family celebrations, caravan chants, work songs and the music of military bands. At the bottom of the hierarchy, we find “sensuous music that is performed in association with condemned activities, or that is thought to incite to such prohibited practices as consumption of drugs and alcohol, lust, prostitution etc.” These genres are clearly forbidden, haram. Most forms of music and singing, though, fall between these clear categories and are controversial.[2]

Of course a good message can be grasp from any human being but as for myself I would love to strictly restrict myself to ONLY hear what -selective- munsyeed are singing. As my nafs is not that good yet (I may be lost in the middle of it if I choose otherwise) and listen from those who close, submit and obey ALLAH will fill my ruh and heart with much fulfillment of good dzauq and bring me to remember HIM in the purest content of glass (methodology) InshALLAH it will lead/help me to hear what ONLY ALLAH want us to listen to.

Every single thing around us can lead us to ALLAH of course. Even the sound of the birds, the waves of water. As Imam Chelebi mentioned but it has to be inline in what ALLAH favor.

The seventeenth-century Muslim scholar Chelebi distinguishes three categories of music: that coming from birds, from the human throat and from instruments. He states that in Islam it is permissible to listen to the melodies produced by birds, and to those produced by the human throat, subject to certain conditions and rules. To listen to instruments that are blown or struck however, is never permissible. Certain instruments are forbidden because they are supposed to incite drinking. The kuba, an oblong drum, for instance, is prohibited because of its association with drinking wine, licentious songs and dissolute people. With respect to the human throat, if it produces songs about wine and debauchery, it is not permissible to listen to them. [3]

In short, it is not outer appearance that are importance but how they carried themselves and being in the limitation of syara’ while performing. Music and entertainment in Islam is not only about the music itself but our scholars has put a strict guideline that the performance, lyrics, singers, music, crowds of the listeners has to follows Islamic principle and Maqasid Shara’ that been stated by those applicable in that area.

Meaning that you can be as dashing as Maher Zain or as humble as Zain Bikha for instance, but have to keep a straight rule whilst performing, not conduct any inappropriate acts, keeps right with thier actions/words and not mingling with mixed-gender crowds as they have showed us. All single of action in Islamic music/sing/song will be accountable by ALLAH.

Not everything evolving around music to determine what a good music are in ALLAH’s sight. Imam Ghazali (Rahimahullah) has underline a clear guideline on how to conduct ourselves while mingling around music and whats not around that.

The approval or disapproval of performers is not only related to the genre but also to the context of the performance. Regarding the permissibility of the context, three elements are deemed important by the eleventh-century Muslim scholar Imam al-Ghazali, that is, time, place and associates. It is not acceptable if too much time is devoted to performances so that it interferes with the higher Islamic goals and distracts the believers’ attention from the devotion to God. Full-time professional performers are accordingly less acceptable than non-professional amateurs. The acceptability of the place and occasion of the performance is also an important factor in judging the legitimacy of the entertainers and their public. Lastly, the type of people present during the performance affects the permissibility of the performers and their audience. A certain genre of music can thus be permissible in one context while it is rejected in another circumstance. Playing the tambourine is, for instance, acceptable if it is done by women at a wedding but forbidden if it is done by men in contexts of homosexuality or prostitution.[4]

As we the listener we also have to be careful of what your heart, mind, soul, body, and intention based upon. It should be a right based on what ALLAH permitted us to do so. Keep our gaze lower and always listen ONLY what can make we remembered ALLAH. If the heart trembled with an-nafs (evil, bad, uncalled desire), then even what you heard comes from a good Muslim singer and good message then we should stop. That is how delicate a barrier between (an evil, bad, uncalled) soul (an-nafs) desire AND a soul that only want ALLAH.

As my beloved Mursyid has advised after we been entertained by much loved Qasidah recitation during this month Mukhayyam:-

Shame on you if you listen and enjoyed the rhythm and immersed with the songs (qasidah nasyeed) and NOT the essence of it (not immersed with the love and missing Prophet) or the entity of the message/content than what we hear will be a HUJJAH (unfavorable witness) in front of ALLAH in the hereafter!

Shyakh Yusuf Bakhur AlHasani strictly exclaimed. What he said really hit the nail of our head. We know that he want to subtly remembering us to not be way too mesmerized in the rhymes or sounds of any captivating music. It is dangerous to the heart.

What he means is in EVERYTHING we did, we have to put ALLAH first and NOT our nafs. Even in a simple gesture of listening or entertaining ourselves which is of course is permissible (halal) and ibahah in Islam at the first place.

I shuddered with much fear and utter embarrassment knowing that I always listen to what my nafs preferred even when it is comes from a good things i.e Qasidah, naat or nasyid. That’s how delicate of nafs can be and fools us at the same time. Even when we are listening to Qasidah that praised Rasulullah saw, Syeikh Yusuf strongly advice that don’t listen only because of the beauty of the rhythm OR for those who are singing it otherwise it will be a Hujjah on us.

My stand for instrumental nasyeed comes from major (Jumhur) of Fuqaha’. It is a khilaf issues not that I want to make an easy decision out of it (talfiq). I read in the kutubs, study, attend halaqah/seminars and asked the Ulamas. May ALLAH forgive me if I have choose or ever choose a music that will cause me astray if I didn’t repent and listen to what is not pleasurable in the sight of ALLAH. As myself are the weak and full of flaws servant of YOU, so please forgive my sins O ALLAH. Please correct me If I have gone wrong and guide me if I have violate what is righteous before YOUR Will.

Let me not choose anything because of my own desire and excuse my choices because of my own nafs. Fear ALLAH O you, if you ever did or do that.

I wouldn’t want to post the discussion among the jurist here but a short article can be read here.[5]

Having said this, the restriction that jurist and scholars that allowed instrumental nasyeed is very strict. So that we can choose wisely and didn’t go beyond the guideline and the guidance.

The Day of Resurrection draws near, None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur’an)? And you laugh at it and weep not, Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone)” 53-57:An-Najmi[6]

To conclude of course there is NO other purest and noblest enjoyment to a mu’min other than listening, reciting and memorizing the Word’s of HIM; Al-Quran. It is the ultimate and only simple entertainment for a Muhsinin soul. Let us try to seek the noblest one, inshALLAH in our daily routine and life.

Allahusubhanahuwat’alaa’lam.

[6] Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Allah says (interpretation of the meaning) “Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing)” – Sufyaan al-Thawri said, narrating from his father from Ibn ‘Abbaas: (this means) singing. This is Yemeni (dialect): ismad lana means ghan lana [sing to us]. This was also the view of ‘Ikrimah. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer).

Wahai Yang Bernama Diriku,

Telah menulis Imam Ahmad Rifaie dalam kitabnya[1]

Adalah Malik B Dinar Rahimahullah selalu menangis dan berkata:-

Hai jiwa!

Maka Malik B Dinar kemudiannya pun pengsan.

If someone remarks:
“What an excellent man you are!”
and this pleases you more than his saying,
“What a bad man you are!”
know that you are still a bad man.

praying-man

I’m the one who was full of riya’, ujub, takabbur, hiprocasy? Indeed, I am.

O, my soul do repent and submit only to ALLAH and do not ever stand before your nafs.

Excerpt From Kitab

Imam Shafi’i said, may God have mercy on him:

“Only the sincere one (mukhlis) knows hypocrisy (riya’).”

To illustrate the great extent of the concealment of hypocrisy we only need relate the following from the Teacher and Imam Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri [the sufi shaykh], may God have mercy on him, from his ‘Risala’ with our isnad previously mentioned.

This means that it is impossible to know the reality of hypocrisy and see its hidden shades except for one who resolutely seeks (arada) sincerity. That one strives for a long time (yajtahidu azmanan) searching and meditating and examining at length within himself until he knows or knows something of what hypocrisy is.

This does not happen for everyone.

Indeed, this happens only with the special ones (al-khawass). But for a given individual to claim that he knows what hypocrisy is, this is real ignorance on his part.

I shall mention in this book a chapter, God willing, in which you will see a type of wonder that will cool your eyes.

He said: “I heard Muhammad ibn al-Husayn say: I heard Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn Ja’far say: I heard al-Hasan ibn ‘Alawiyya say: Abu Yazid al-Bistami, may God be well pleased with him, said:

I was for twelve years the blacksmith of my ego (haddadu nafsi), then for five years I became the mirror of my heart (mir’atu qalbi), then for a year I looked at what lay between the two of them and I saw around me a visible belt [i.e. of kufr = the vestimentary sign of a dhimmi]. So I strove to cut it for twelve years and then looked again, and I saw around me a hidden belt. So I worked to cut it for five years, looking to see how to cut. Then it was unveiled for me (kushifa li) and I looked at creation and saw that they were all dead. So I recited the funeral prayer over them.”

Blessings and Peace upon the Purified Prophet, his Family, and his Companions

I say:

That hypocrisy should be as inscrutable as this to the peerless master in this path [i.e. tasawwuf] is enough to show how greatly hidden it lies. His phrase: “I saw them dead” is the apex of worth and beauty, and seldom do other than the Prophet’s words, Blessings and Peace be upon him, gather up such wealth of meanings. I shall touch upon its meaning briefly. It means that after he had struggled long and hard (lamma jahada hadhihi al-mujahada) and his ego had been disciplined (tahadhdhabat) and his heart illumined (istanara qalbuhu), and when he had conquered (istawla) his ego and subdued it (qaharaha) and achieved complete mastery over it (malakaha mulkan tamman), and it had subjected himself to him totally, at that time he looked at all created beings and found that they were dead and completely powerless:

they cannot harm nor can they benefit;
they cannot give nor can they keep back;
they cannot give life nor can they give death;
they cannot convey nor can they cut off;
they cannot bring near nor can they take away;
they cannot make happy nor can they make sad;
they cannot bestow nor can they deprive;
they possess for themselves neither benefit nor harm,
nor death, nor life, nor resurrection.

This, then, characterizes human beings as dead: they are considered dead in all of the above respects, they are neither feared nor entreated, what they have is not coveted, they are not shown off to nor fawned upon, one does not concern oneself with them, they are not envied nor disparaged, their defects are not mentioned nor their faults pursued and exposed, one is not jealous of them nor thinks much of whatever God-given favors they have received, and they are forgiven and excused for their shortcomings, although the legal punishments (al-hudud) are applied to them according to the Law. But the application of such punishment does not preclude what we have mentioned before, nor does it preclude our endeavoring to cover up their faults without disparaging them in the least.

This then is how the dead are viewed. And if someone mentions human beings in a dishonorable manner we forbid him from entering into that subject in the same way that we would if he were going to examine a person who died. We do not do anything for their sake nor do we leave Him for them. And we no more stop ourselves from fulfilling an act of obedience to God on their account than we do on account of a dead person, and we do not over-praise them. And we neither love their own praise for us nor hate their insults, and we do not reciprocate them.

In sum, they are as it were non-existent in all the respects we have mentioned. They are under God’s complete care and jurisdiction. Whoever deals with them in such a way, he has combined the good of the next world with that of the lower world. May God the Generous grant us success towards achieving this. These few words are enough to touch upon an explanation for his [Abu Yazid al-Bistami's] saying — May God be well pleased with him.

Allahumma Solli’ala Muhammad Wa’Alaalihi Wasohbihi Wasallam

(Al-Minan Al-Kubra: Imam Sya’rani).

Highly Notable Confrences

11 12 2009

1) HIGHWAY TO MUSLIM UNITY AND WORLD PEACE

Last few weeks while both of surf the net together and hit into one of our fav spot on the net; DeenPort we stumbled across one highly notable conference. Surely enough, both of us were driving with an anticipation and keenly interested upon lingering on the speakers that will attend and the topics that will be presented. To add the flavour of the anticipation (and excitement) was some of the presenter are among our fav speakers and scholars. Talk about a good timing.

I said to my husband that even though that the fees was quite pricey but we don’t know when we will have the chance to meet the prestigious scholars and Muslim thinkers elsewhere. We might die soon or vice versa (Not that of course we want that to happen), I poured out my thoughts. More than willing, I will pay the fees with my own saving. It is worth in every single of penny!

Both of us has put an earnest note to attend this conference and driven with an overwhelms of excitement that finally we can attend a conference together. We barely make it usually. Before I’m married, I will occasionly attend to any academic or international seminars if had the chances and the times to do so. But since we are living in Terengganu at the moment our plan has evolved around logistic spectrum.

I have to say that the presenters that will be attend in this conference is highly distinguished scholars and thinkers.

Sadly to say, on the very last minute the plan that I have carefully and delicately planned for several weeks can’t be accomplish. Both of us can’t make to the conference for certain reason. But I do like to recommend and suggest for those who are interested in Muslim unity subject, the challenges and conflict that triggered us long mostly that occurred us at this current time will take notes and consider to attend to this once in a lifetime opportunity. Anyone who didn’t have anything on their schedule to be precise I humbly thought it is a good investment of thought and knowledge.

Meeting an Ulama’ has not been an easy path for the seekers of knowledge and truth in the past. It always needed a massive effort, spiritual strength and the eagerness for something new and profound. Nowadays, it has been easier, but another challenge has tie us down. Worldly affairs, has been a priority rather than seeking knowledge. No one can avoid this temptation including me. A sincere soul with the right manhaj (method) of learning with the right and credible Syaykh is very much needed to assist us in the path of ‘Tolibul Ilm’, indeed.

    2. The second most anticipated talk by me will be:-

Oh, how I wish I could be there. I have interested in Naquib Al Attas since the first time I heard of his legacy though I have to admit I’m far than have complete all of his books and writings.

And oh my! MashALLAH. Prof Naquib himself will be presence! After the long hiatus due to the political drama in ISTAC, he will finally presenting his honorable speech. This is one of the most long-awaited moment for me but again, I can’t be there. Even I have been eying this program for quite some time but unfortunately the times is not on my side.

Moreover, look at the fees. It was SO unreasonably inexpensive! Where else you can find, (I seriously thought this) a conference that provide a DISTINGUISHED LEGACY at this amount. Knowledge can’t EVER be evaluate by money of course but many of institutions do take advantage of KNOWLEDGE to gain great amount of profit. Needles to say.

How I impressed and admired this effort. Talk about a real scholar and a low profile one for that matter.

You may go to Rausyanfikir for further details.

    2. The Seventh World Conference On Muslim Education.
